Patel confirmed for OD Racing Team WRT 2018 Championship chase

OD Racing Team WRT announced today the return of Chennai born Aditya Patel as driver partner to Malaysian born Mitch Gilbert for their second season at the Blancpain GT Series Asia 2018.

Patel, who had to hold off announcing his return earlier, was excited to finally be able to confirm his drive with the team. “I always knew I wanted to return to the series with the team as we still have unfinished business after last year. OD Racing and Mitch have been a great source of support throughout and the season we had in 2017 was the most fun season in my race career, so to be able to be a part of that once again is fantastic. We are definitely going to work hard together to chase that Championship that we missed.”

Last year the powerhouse pair stunned the grid with their great teamwork and precise driving throughout the season, claiming the first win of the season at Sepang and capping it off with a double win in Zhejiang, but their mid-season run of bad luck prevented them from claiming the Championship by just one point.

“After all, that is what racing is all about. The thrill of the chase, the excitement of close battles, the rush of adrenaline and the unknown factors that makes for an outstanding season. We are definitely back this season stronger and we have a solid pairing with Mitch and Aditya who are great friends and each other’s sounding board” said Cornelius Ee, Director of OD Racing Team WRT.

“We will also have the benefit of race experience with our new team partner, WRT, this year. The Belgian racing team has an outstanding race history behind them, claiming Championships at almost every race series they enter, and working with them I am sure will be an absolute pleasure” he added.

Patel, who is backed by Audi India, Jubilant Motorworks and 2Go Activewear, agrees. “We have a strong package this year, with the support from WRT, to be able to fight for the title again. WRT is considered to be one of the best GT3 teams in the world with an impressive track record and I’m really looking forward to working with them this year. Once again I must thank Audi India for their continued support over the years.”

OD Racing started the season with a two-day Shakedown of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 at Sepang International Circuit on 27 and 28 March in preparation for the upcoming race just two weeks away.

The Blancpain GT Series Asia will see the team visit six race circuits in four countries around Asia, including at the newly built Ningbo International Speedpark in China at the end of the season. The season will open at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia on 14th April 2018.
